SUMMARY:
The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and operation of the system infrastructure, devices, servers, and client systems. Recommends new technologies and infrastructure upgrades to meet organization needs. Acts as a resource and mentor for other IT staff on technical questions, troubleshooting, and system design. This role is accountable for ensuring uptime and availability of Avel’s server and VDI infrastructure.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Works directly with Avel customers to troubleshoot and resolve the most complex network and server infrastructure issues.
- Helps develop and modify the Avel system architecture, topology, and infrastructure, and creates the implementation plans for system software and hardware to ensure compatibility and operability.
- Helps design methodology and utilizes software and hardware tools to identify, diagnose, and correct problems affecting system performance.
- Interacts with vendors and other Avel sites to coordinate the installation, configuration, and use of multi-site systems.
- Maintains quality of service by following organization standards and policies.
- Implements and maintains complex systems along with monitoring the implementations to assure proper operation and adherence to standards.
- Maintains logs and device inventories, as well as appropriate documentation including but not limited to application notes, drawings, and configuration information.
- Actively participates in meetings concerning the evaluation and recommendation of system infrastructure designs and components.
- Provides assistance and guidance to peers with day-to-day operations of applications and systems that IT supports.
- Proactively and effectively communicates changes within the IT infrastructure to all effected parties. Follow and document strict testing and deployment methodologies for IT Operations.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in related area preferred.
- Eight years related experience and/or training preferred.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, and/or REGISTRATIONS:
- Microsoft Certified (Azure, O365) is preferred
- VMware Certified Professional is preferred
- This position requires a valid driver’s license, and that the employee is insurable by the Avel Health automobile liability insurance carrier.

REQUIRED PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and communicate effectively.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
REQUIRED COMMUNICATION/MATHEMATICAL/REASONING SKILLS:
- Must possess the required level of skills and abilities to communicate and apply mathematical concepts and sound reasoning to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this job.
- Must be able to perform basic operations on a personal computer within the Windows operating system.
- This position requires problem solving skills, critical thinking skills, and the ability to multi-task.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- May be exposed to communicable diseases when working in a health care environment.
- Working near moving mechanical parts, the risk of electrical shock, compression, and exposure to sharps and cuts are also occasionally present.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
