Reports To: Avel eCare Chief Medical Officer 

Summary: 

As a Medical Director, your primary role is to oversee the medical operations of a healthcare facility or organization. You will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction in all medical matters, including but not limited to patient care, quality assurance, and compliance with regulations and best practices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintains required Emergency Medicine board certification, state licensure, credentialing and privileging at the originating site and complies with Federal, State, and Local bylaw regulations for the practice of emergency telemedicine services.
  • Provides clinical care to patients serviced by the Emergency program.
  • Responsible for engaging and driving effective physician relationships with Emergency Medicine provider.
  • Leads physician meetings and assures effective communication mechanisms for physicians.
  • Provide the Avel eCare Chief Medical Officer with a monthly report of activities and hours dedicated to the service line.
  • Develops and maintains the Emergency quality program in conjunction with the Quality team.  
  • Audits compliance of the Emergency physicians with established practices and expectations (through chart review and observation) and provides feedback from a quality and patient safety prospective.
  • Develops and directs an educational program regarding quality and patient safety to support emergency medicine medical education for professional staff, physicians, residents, and medical students.
  • Actively participates in recruitment of Emergency physicians and staff to support the staffing model.  Develops, inspires, and grows the Esprit de corps among all personnel involved with the Avel eCare team, especially core personnel with a goal to maximize recruitment and retention.
  • Interacts with Emergency customers to facilitate the development of best practice standards and professional relationships ensuring a strong relationship between Avel eCare and its customers.
  • Actively participate in business development including medical director hours dedicated to sales travel including overnight sales trips from 1 to 3 days as needed.  Sales travel hours include travel time and meeting time.
  • Participates in data review and analysis of Avel eCare operational and outcome metrics.
  • Proactively enhances relationships with Emergency customer sites by regular visits, phone calls, email, teleconferences, and other communication means.
  • Coordinates with the other Emergency medical leaders to fill all Avel eCare shifts.
  • Maintains a continuous review of strategies to use Avel eCare technology to measurably improve patient outcomes and patient safety.
  • Supports the Avel eCare code of conduct.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

  • MD or DO degree required.
  • Minimum of one year of Tele- Emergency experience required.
  • Previous experience in a leadership role within a healthcare organization.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of healthcare policies, regulations, and standards.

CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, and/or REGISTRATION

  • Active DEA certification and Board Certification in Emergency Medicine. 
  • At least one unrestricted state license (any state in the U.S.)
