SUMMARY: 

Avel eCARE is seeking a dedicated and experienced Medical Director for our Hospitalist Service Line. This full-time position (1.0 FTE) is crucial for the development, maintenance of service excellence, and strategic direction of the Avel eCARE Hospitalist Program. The Medical Director will provide clinical leadership, develop and implement program policies, ensure quality and risk management compliance, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to promote and expand the service. This role requires a strong leader with significant hospitalist and medical director experience, ideally with a background in rural health and/or telemedicine.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Service Line Leadership & Development: Lead the development and ongoing excellence of the Avel eCARE Hospitalist Service Line, including setting Objective Key Results (OKRs) for site recruitment and retention in consultation with service line leaders.
  • Clinical Direction: Provide comprehensive clinical direction and guidelines for all professional personnel within the Program, including physicians, non-physician providers, nurses, technicians, and students.
  • Program Policies & Compliance: Develop, periodically review, and revise the Program's professional policies, protocols, procedures, and standards to ensure compliance with all state and federal guidelines.
  • Quality Assessment & Utilization Review: Actively participate in quality assessment programs to ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and insurance requirements, and other requested quality initiatives.
  • Risk Management: Engage in risk management programs led by Avel eCARE leadership to ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and insurance requirements, as well as other requested risk management programs.
  • Program Promotion & Business Development: Participate in promoting the Program to the public, physicians, and community, collaborating with the business development team and account executives for sales and customer service.
  • Scheduling & Coverage: Coordinate with other physicians to develop and maintain a schedule that ensures prompt and predictable 365-day per year availability of professional services offered by the Program.
  • Budget Assistance: Assist in the preparation of annual and long-term operating and capital budgets for the Program upon leadership's request.
  • Resource for Physicians: Serve as a primary resource to other physicians regarding the Avel eCARE Hospitalist Service Line.
  • Time Responsibilities and Clinical Engagement: This 1.0 FTE position will include approximately 0.25 FTE dedicated to clinical shifts. It is understood that there will be some variance, as needed, to cover the demands of the various clinical obligations. This position may require weekend and overnight travel as necessary.
  • Reporting & Documentation: Provide to the CMO of Avel a monthly report of activities undertaken, and achievement related to contractual responsibilities in the prior month. Physician shall also provide documentation of the time invested in these activities. Failure to provide the report and time log will result in withholding of further compensation until this requirement is met.
  • Client Relationships: Establish and maintain an effective and strong working relationship with Indian Health Service by providing dedicated support as needed.
  • EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a practicing Hospitalist.
  • Proven experience in a Medical Director role, including managing hospitalists.
  • Experience working collaboratively with hospital executives.
  • Rural health experience preferred.
  • Telemedicine/TeleHospitalist experience preferred.
  • CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, and/or REGISTRATIONS:

  • MD or DO degree with an active, unrestricted medical license in relevant states.
  • Willingness to obtain multi-state licensure.
  • Eligible for Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC) preferred.
  • Board certification in a related specialty is required.
  • DEA certification is required.
