Position Summary
Pharmacy Technician assists in medication preparation, storage, distribution, inventory, and required record keeping under the supervision of a Pharmacist. This may include aseptically compounding parenteral admixtures and delivering medications to patient care areas, completing inventory and charge/credit processing, and having contact medical personal.
Essential Responsibilities
- Under Pharmacist supervision, accurately inputs and/or prepares labels and packages inpatient or outpatient medication orders and prescriptions to maintain an efficient, accurate, and high-quality medication delivery system.
- Assists with the collection and maintenance of records as needed by the Pharmacy department and applicable accreditations such as Utilization Review Accreditation Commission, Joint Commission, NIOSH, OSHA, or other accreditations as may be required by law, practice standards, or departmental policy to maintain compliance with accreditation entities.
- Demonstrates proficient knowledge of medications, calculations, regulations, and regulation limitations, personal protective equipment, and promotion of patient safety to ensure high-quality patient care and compliance.
- Successfully communicates with nursing staff, physicians, customers, co-workers, supervisor and management and participates in interdepartmental work groups and committees as assigned to promote high-quality communication and prevent patient harm.
- Performs clerical functions such as, but not limited to, billing and pharmacy inventory to promote an efficient medication distribution system. Files paperwork as required for record keeping and perform CQI functions as directed.
- Packages unit-does medication as needed and lay out for the Pharmacist to check. Performs monthly outdate checks of all stock in the Pharmacy and other medication storage areas.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three months related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Completion of Pharmacy Technician Vocational Technical program preferred.
- 1-3 months of related experience/training or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Licensure & Certifications:
- Certified Pharmacy Technician by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board, as required by the Kansas Board of Pharmacy.
- Registration with the Kansas Board of Pharmacy required within 30 days of employment or other state board based off job assignment.
