General Hours of Work: Rotating shifts (with weekend/holiday involvement)

About this Opportunity:

Avel eCare is seeking a skilled Nurse Practitioner for our Behavioral Health team. This role involves providing medical management to patients in Avel eCare Behavioral Health, under the direction of a physician. Nurse Practitioners in this role will practice within the regulations of the Nurse Practice Act of the states where services are provided. The role will involve assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients in emergency departments, medical inpatient units, and crisis stabilization units, focusing on acute mental health and behavioral health crises.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Collaborate with psychiatrists and other team members (RN, support specialists, MSWs) in the acute assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients presenting to emergency departments and inpatient units.
  • Assess patients for suicide and violence risks, making recommendations for the appropriate level of care, and collaborating with families as needed.
  • Place direct admit orders for patients requiring support for inpatient behavioral health/crisis stabilization units.
  • Assist with rounding and evaluations as requested across different supported environments.
  • Discuss patient cases with accepting psychiatric facilities when necessary.
  • Complete Crisis Response Plans in collaboration with patients to support nursing staff.
  • Maintain awareness of safety factors related to patient care, adhering to practice policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Contribute to the development and achievement of nurse practitioner practice goals and participate in quality assurance (QA) activities and regulatory reporting.
  • Provide education and training to staff, patients, and families, maximizing opportunities in the clinical setting.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals and agencies to deliver quality care and coordinate services.
  • Demonstrate strong clinical, interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Work to improve unit collaboration, streamline workflows, and maintain high-quality clinical standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Graduate of an NLN-accredited school of nursing or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program preferred, or at least 3 years of inpatient behavioral health experience required.
  • Master’s or Doctorate degree in nursing required.

Licensure and Certifications:

  • Active State CNP license required.
  • Registered Nurse licensure required and must meet multi-state licensure requirements.
  • APRN licensure within the states Avel eCare provides services in, required within 9 months of hire.
  • Federal and State DEA certification required within 9 months of hire.
  • Completion of state-specific certification/education as required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Frequent sitting, occasional standing, walking, and use of hands for various tasks.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required, including close, distance, and peripheral vision, as well as depth perception and focus adjustment.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Proficient communication, reading, and writing skills in English.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts and sound reasoning for problem-solving and decision-making.

  • Proficiency in basic computer operations within the Windows operating system.
